Fulham suffer shock defeat against Glasgow DAFC

British Deaf defending champions Fulham DFC were knocked out of the British Deaf Cup by a resilient Glasgow Deaf Athletic FC.

Fulham started the match as favourites, played at the neutral venue of Doncaster College for the Deaf, which hosted both the plate and main semi final matches.

The whites could not find a way past the Glasgow Deaf Athletic defence, after dominating, and controlling the match from the start.  Fulham were guilty of dominating the match ineffectively, and lacking in sharpness in attack.

Glasgow's goal came as a result of a counter—attack catching us short and on the back foot at the back, after over committing in attack trying to look for the goal to take us through to our fourth final in four years.

Despite being the oldest deaf football club in the world (founded 1871), Glasgow could also be the youngest side to make the British Deaf Cup final, as they finished the match with their oldest player being 23.

Glasgow will face Fulham's London rivals St John Arsenal in the final, which will be played at Wolverhampton on May 5th. St John Arsenal came from behind to take Doncaster College for the Deaf FC to extra time, to win 4—2.  Should St John Arsenal win, the British Deaf Cup will stay in London for the fourth consecutive year.

It is now back to the business of the Kingston & District Football League for Fulham, with the first of many midweek matches starting on Wednesday against Maori Park Reserves.
