Fulham DFC 2-2 Godstone

Fulham DFC secured promotion by coming back from 2 goals down to draw against Godstone.

The last time the two teams met, Godstone ended Fulham’s winning run by sheer seconds as Daniel Hogan free kick was harshly disallowed in the dying seconds.

This time Fulham had to repeat the feat of coming back from two goals down, a task that seemed daunting when Godstone took an early lead after a player was left unmarked during a corner.

The resulting volley was followed up with a another goal that was gifted to Godstone. Full back headed back pass was a little too short for the keeper, a mistake which the Godstone striker preyed upon making the most of the situation.

Was Fulham beaten at this point? Far from it as they fought back to salvage something from the game. Godstone repelled wave after wave of Fulham attack, eventually crumbling when Daniel Waller’s looping header brought Fulham back into the game.

Tensions flared as both teams sought a result in this promotion deciding match. It seemed fitting that the person who scored the goal that secured promotion was none other than Jacob Willis himself.

As we were approaching to the dying minutes, Mycroft came into play replacing Rumney thus changing our formation to a more attacking approach. The substitution immediately paid off. Mycroft received the ball and with a quick turn putting the ball through for Willis. Latching onto the through ball, the striker found himself under immense pressure from the defender. With the goalkeeper approaching, Willis kept his cool to score and wild celebrations followed.

Waller had a golden opportunity to complete the comeback however his shot curved wide of the left post.

Unable to get the win, title winner remains a very unlikely dream. That will be little concern to a team that has achieved their best league position and will now venture where no Fulham DFC team since its inception has ventured before.

The current league table looks like this:
