Fulham DFC 8-4 West Ewell Athletic
Fulham DFC ensured that they’ll enter the Christmas break as league leaders with an 8-4 victory over West Ewell Athletic.
West Ewell threatened to ruin Fulham’s festive mode by going 2-0 up. While the first goal was controversial with the player knocking keeper Tom Boyle. The goal was given despite Boyle having a firm grip on the ball as he claimed it from the cross.
West Ewell’s second goal was pretty clear, the player was afforded too much space as the corner came in leaving him free to head in and extend their lead.
Despite West Ewell’s lead, it was Fulham who were creating the majority of the attacking chances. Shots fired slightly wide multiple times from Nick Gregory, Jason Mycroft and Jacob Willis, Gregory also had a good penalty shout turned down. Fulham showed great character to not let the situation deter them as the second half showed. Fil Kamps continuing his improbable goalscoring form by pouncing on a loose ball following an attacking corner.
Two Lee Farrell goals sandwiched a goal from captain Gregory, the second being an absolute perfect demonstration in control and technique. Following a defensive clearance, Farrell chested the ball and in one effortless motion volleyed it so that it powered the back of the net.
For every goal West Ewell scored to try and come back into the game, Fulham retaliated with 2 more. Philip Swift and Willis scored when West Ewell pulled one back with a header that looped over Boyle. Ben Lampert’s goal and a Daniel Hogan free kick was Fulham’s response to a West Ewell goal that this time went under Boyle. Hogan free kick was also his 100th goal for the club.
In their last league game of 2015 Fulham finish on win and leading the pack, no doubt in good spirits for next week’s friendly game against Westside FC.
